About the Spring 2013 authors


 Ani Aroian is a junior at Texas State University majoring in Nutrition-Dietetics. Specific interests within her field include sustainability, public policy and childhood nutrition. On campus, she is a member of Bobcat Net Impact, the Student Leadership Team, the Student Nutrition Organization and the Honors College. When Ani is not working on chemistry homework, she can be found on her computer either watching film documentaries, YouTube videos, or listening to her newly found love for country music.


Troy Stephen Gilbeaux is a Sophomore at Texas State University-San Marcos. He is a member of the Honors College with a major in Political Science and a Minor in Business Administration. He enjoys video games, lifting weights, boxing, motorsports and shooting stuff. After college Stephen intends to become an Officer in the United States Marine Corps as a Ground Intelligence Officer.


Tori Hale is an English/Psychology double major at Texas State University. She is a member of the honors college as a sophomore. She is also a forward on the Texas State Women’s soccer team. Tori transferred from TCU after her freshman year, where she also was involved in the Honors College and the women’s soccer team. She is currently undecided about her future plans, hoping to continue her soccer career after college and then pursue a law degree. She spends her free time reading, writing, and playing or watching various sports.

Jessica Loechel is a Public Relations major at Texas State University minoring in Honors Studies. She has been a admin-ajax.phpmember of the Association of Women in Communications, Order of Omega, and Alpha Xi Delta sorority where she served as Academic Achievement Chair. She recently spent the summer studying abroad in Spain and plans to pursue her love of travel and adventure throughout her life. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school in Seattle, Washington. She hopes to one day work as a communicator in the nonprofit field. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her dog, shopping in Austin’s unique thrift stores, and utilizing her creativity through a variety of media.

honorsphoto2Jessica Luhrman is a Political Science major at Texas State University where she is a member of the Honors College as a freshman, striving to be a lawyer. Having spent most of her adolescence in Germany, Jessica has a passion to travel and hopes to incorporate that into her future career in government by being involved with a non-profit organization abroad to eliminate the continuous misuse of foreign aid. Through being a member of the Human-Environment-Animal-Team, a former officer of the College Democrats, and a newly established member of the Young Americans for Liberty, she has renewed desire to be an advocate for domestic environmental, economic, and social change.

Stephanie Moore is a senior Mass Communications- Public Relations major. Picture for Word PressShe is an Honors Studies and Media Studies minor. Stephanie has a passion for independent film, education, and Eastern European studies, which she plans to translate into her work with film publicity and possibly foreign service. Stephanie has volunteered with Austin Film Festival for the last four years as a filmmaker liasion and will continue to work towards her passions. Stephanie plans to attend grad school upon graduation from Texas State University.

IMG_3023Juan Saldana is a sophomore at Texas State University majoring in Political Science. Following his undergraduate studies, Juan will pursue a law degree at the University of Texas at Austin. He spends his time reading and writing. Arguing is one of his best attributes. One of his goals will be to study abroad in Europe within the upcoming semesters. Juan is a member of College Forward where he ensures his success and maintains an active role in Texas State. As a past time he enjoys horseback riding and playing soccer. 

Lisa Sargent is a sophomore at Texas State University. She is an advertising major with a minor in international relations. Upon graduation she hopes to work her way up to the position of art director at an international advertising agency.  She hopes to join the Peace Corps sometime before the age of 30 in order to teach children from third world countries how to read and speak English. When she is not reading and practicing her British accent, she loves writing, dancing, TedTalks, and smiling at strangers.

Samantha Sheffield is a sophomore at Texas State University majoring in both political science and journalism with a minor in the honors program. She is very involved on campus with her national co-ed service fraternity Alpha Phi Omegaprof pic and various other campus groups. She is also the president of the College Democrats at Texas State and one day hopes to go to law school and work along side politicians as a member of their campaign staffs. When Samantha is not working with one of her organizations and attending classes, she likes to sit back and watch a few episodes of The West Wing while eating a delicious burger from P. Terry’s, her favorite Austin original.


Laura Villalobos is a current junior at Texas State University majoring in Sound Recording Technology. She is a member of the Honors college and of the Alphi Chi Honors Society, Texas Iota Chapter and plans to graduate with Honors in May of 2014. She was also one of two students nominated in the Spring semester of 2013 as Outstanding Student in the SRT program. Laura was recently an assistant engineer on an album with rock band Blue October and plans to pursue a career in the music industry once she finishes her degree. In her free time Laura loves watching AMC TV show Mad Men, playing music with her friends and sleeping.
