About the Spring 2018 authors

Kendall Allen is a sophomore double majoring in political science and history. Kendall is from Sinton, Texas, a small town near Corpus Christi. She is passionate about education and politics and hopes to become a teacher in her hometown and later go to law school to become an attorney specializing in education. In her free time, Kendall likes to head to the river with friends, hike, exercise, and read.

Peyton Buie is a junior majoring in accounting and minoring in honors. Peyton is from a small town west of Austin called McDade where he grew up on a blackberry farm. Post-graduation he is planning on going into Texas State’s five-year master’s in accountancy program, after which he is hoping to enter the workforce as an auditor. Peyton enjoys listening to audiobooks, petting dogs, and spending time with friends.

 

fileErin Copeland is a freshman journalism major at Texas State University. She plans to be a investigative journalist. Her favorite pastimes include petting dogs and sleeping. She hopes to one day work for the Associated Press and fight to keep news objective.

Alright, you caught her; Keely Freund has never been to Romania. However, her love for exploring the world and learning about others might eventually lead her to that lovable European country. Meanwhile, Keely will continue her studies of political science and philosophy. While attending Texas State, she has held positions such as vice president of Bobcats for Beto, a peer mentor for SHARE Pride, outreach director for Jewish Bobcats, president of Women’s Ultimate Frisbee, and a senator for student government. Keely Found her passion for social justice and plans to dedicate her life to the study of law.

Triston and Ruby

Triston Giesie is a character, that’s for sure. With more chutzpah and ambition than anyone ought to have, this public relations major aspires to uphold his family’s tradition of military service by becoming a JAG lawyer. Until then, he is a news reporter for the University Star, the Mass Communication LLC RA, and still hung up on the fact that he is an Eagle Scout. Regardless of the path he takes, Triston wants to work with the National Parks Department before retiring to pursue his vices.

Caitlin Gold is a sophomore majoring in political science with a minor in Spanish. Caitlin is from Houston, Texas, and plans to attend law school in the fall of 2020. She hopes to one day work with the Innocence Project to get the wrongly convicted off death row and help reform the criminal justice system. Caitlin is a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient and enjoys cooking, hiking/backpacking, traveling, and taking naps.

Jade Hinnant is a native Texas gal whose passion is to connect with others in meaningful ways. Her communication studies major at Texas State University has allowed her to refine and expand this passion in a variety of ways, including eye-opening classes, campus organizations, an undergraduate thesis, and a study abroad trip to Oxford, England. Upon graduating in May 2018, Jade will continue her Texas State career as a communication studies graduate student. She delights in taking long walks among wildflowers, training horses, playing music, and spending time with her wonderful family.

Zach Ienatsch 
is a senior journalism student with a minor in philosophy from New Braunfels, Texas. When he’s not writing for The University Star or other local newspapers, Zach likes to participate in community theatre as both an actor and playwright. He dreams of visiting every National Park and seeing the means of production seized by the proletariat. Until then, he’s content with enjoying really good television and movies, drinking quality beer, and playing with his two cats and four dogs. He would like to go to law school one day but only on the condition he can work to overturn Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier.

Maria Nereida Jaimes is a senior majoring in political science with a minor in criminal justice. Nereida is from Austin, Texas. She will be graduating fall 2018 in the Honors College and plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin School of Law the fall after.  She aspires to practice civil law and hopes to one day have a law firm of her own. Nereida currently speaks English and Spanish and is working on becoming fully fluent in French. Nereida loves to travel, she has visited countries such as France, Spain, and Mexico and will be traveling to Costa Rica for a volunteer opportunity in the upcoming summer.

Colin

Colin Morris is a senior studying digital media innovation with a minor in Spanish at Texas State University and plans to graduate December of 2018. Originally from Cypress, Texas, just outside of Houston, Colin stays actively busy as he pursues his education and career as a hopeful storyteller, designer and photographer. In his free time, he binges a number of true-crime and history podcasts, as well as continuously re-watching episodes of Parks and Recreation. Colin hopes to continue his education after graduation and pursue a master’s in journalism and documentaries.

Morgan Morrow is currently a senior at Texas State University graduating in May 2018. She is double majoring in political science and Spanish. She was born in Warner Robins, Georgia, and later moved to Houston, Texas. Morgan plans to attend the University of Houston Law Center in Fall 2018. She aspires to work for a large law firm as a corporate lawyer, and become fully bilingual in Spanish. Her interests include working out at Camp Gladiator, hanging out with family and friends, and watching movies in her free time.

Claire Partain is a freshman majoring in Mass Communication with a minor in Honors Studies and Business Management. She is from the small North Texas town of Fairfield but plans on living in a large city in the future, working in the ever-changing media industry as a journalist. Her other interests include sketching and painting as an amateur artist, music, the outdoors, hanging with friends and traveling.

Hannah Robinson is a junior at Texas State University, majoring in advertising and mass communication with a minor in psychology. She was born in Southern California and raised in Central Texas. She is graduating in spring 2019 and hopes to continue her world travels after graduation. Her other interests include knitting and going on bike rides.

Jakob R. Rodriguez is a journalism and mass communication sophomore at Texas State University. He currently serves as a senior news reporter at Texas State’s student-run newspaper The University Star. Jakob hopes to be an investigative reporter one day.

Anna Sweeney is an honors student at Texas State University majoring in political science and minoring in forensic psychology. She is pursuing a career as a lawyer, and is especially focused on human rights, adoption, and criminal law. She interned at the Crime Victims Office in Gatesville, Texas, which further established her interest in law. She plans on going to law school after completing her Bachelor’s degree at Texas State. She is from a minuscule town called Gatesville which virtually no one has heard of. She enjoys reading, going to concerts, traveling, and drinking coffee like her life depends on it.

Jose Valadez is a freshman at Texas State University majoring in criminal justice law enforcement with a minor in media studies. Jose is from El Centro, California, and spent time living in Yuma, Arizona before finally residing in Harlingen, Texas. He proudly considers himself to be an honorary Texan. He plans to graduate in the spring of 2021, and attend graduate school to pursue a doctorate in criminal justice. His future endeavors include enlisting in the Federal Bureau of Investigation where he can one day earn the distinction of FBI director, or write and direct his own films and hopefully win an Academy Award. In his free time, Jose enjoys writing scripts/plays, listening to jazz music, and watching films.

Kendall Ward is a senior at Texas State University double majoring in political science and history. Kendall hopes to one day “save the world”, but more specifically she would like to start by helping develop sustainable agricultural programs and models in developing countries.  When she’s not working or going to school, Kendall loves trying out new vegan food, painting, sculpting, cross stitching and taking her pups Bennett and Chance for hikes through San Marcos and Austin.

Naomi Wick is a junior public relations major at Texas State, minoring in economics. Naomi enjoys all things water, specifically drinking eight 8-oz glasses of water a day and scuba diving. Naomi has enjoyed being a YoungLife leader at Texas State and has a heart for her teen mom friends at San Marcos High School. A passionate subscriber to the Consistent Life Ethic, her activism has led her to pursue a career with a pro-life nonprofit. She wants the whole world to become vegan and also know how much Jesus loves them.

Nick Williams is a multimedia communicator, most often found utilizing the medium of video. His studies in the mass communication sphere have connected him with interesting people in all sorts of different areas and practices; he considers communication’s propensity to effect these kinds of interactions to be one of the field’s great benefits. Having had opportunity to study news and reporting, Nick appreciates a journalistic and objective outlook for just about every issue and situation.
